"Natale in Italia" is next in the advent calendar. I wanted to make a warm Christmas cocktail featuring amaro. If you like amaro, this is a good way to change up how you might normally drink it. The garnish of the leaning of tower of Pisa makes sure the theme is right on the nose.
For the drink:
-2 1/2 oz artichoke amaro (Don Ciccio & Figli C3 Carciofo or Cynar)
-3 1/2 oz water
-3 coriander seeds
-3 sprigs saffron
-1/8 bay leaf
-3 mint leaves
Bring the water almost to a boil. Remove from the heat and add everything but the amaro. Cover to keep the heat in and allow to steep 4 minutes. Add your amaro to your coffee mug. Pour the steeped water through a fine mesh strainer in to the mug with the amaro. Garnish.
