"Winter Solstice" is next in the advent calendar. Today is the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year. I was always fascinated that Stonehenge was built to align with the sunset on the winter solstice and people figured that out 5,000 years ago. I made a mini Stonehenge with the ice cubes for the theme and wanted a drink that had the glow of a sunset.
For the drink:
-1 1/2 oz gin (Jaisalmer)
-1/4 oz allspice liqueur (St. Elizabeth)
-1 oz fresh blood orange juice
-1/2 oz ginger simple syrup
Garnish:
Ice
Glassware:
Double rocks
Combine all the cocktail ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake for ten seconds. Pour through a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer into your glass. Garnish.
