GERMAN BISCUITS

Week Five of the Great British Bake Off was German Week. The signature challenge was German biscuits. George's cherry marzipan biscuits intrigued me, so I based my cocktail off that. The almond based amaretto served as the base of the cocktail as almonds are the foundation of marzipan. To finalize the theme, I added some melted chocolate, red food coloring, and yellow food coloring to the base to represent the German flag.

For the drink:

-1 oz amaretto (Caffo)

-1/2 oz crème de caco (Tempus Fugit)

-1/3 oz cherry liqueur (Heering)

-3/4 oz fresh lemon juice


Garnish:

Red and yellow gel food coloring

Dark chocolate


Glassware:

Coupe


Melt several chocolate chips either on the stove or in the microwave. With a paint brush, draw a circle around the base. Then add the red and yellow food coloring to create the German flag effect. Add the drink ingredients and ice to a cocktail shaker and shake for 10 seconds. Pour into your glass through a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer.
